What is Juvaderm?

In simple terms, Juvaderm®.

Juvaderm® and Juvaderm Plus® are the newest forms of injectable Hyaluronic Acid based fillers. It can be utilized on moderate and deeper lines, like the lines around your mouth (nasolabial folds).

How does Juvaderm® work?

Your skin is made of two layers, with a supporting columns holding them apart. The area in between includes the clear, jelly-like substance called Hyaluronic Acid. When we are young, we have Hyaluronic Acid in abundance. As we age, the acid between these layers diminishes and the skin “caves in” somewhat resulting in a wrinkle or fold. The wrinkle would be gone if you filled the skin beneath. That’s where Juvaderm comes in. Since it is made form Hyaluronic Acid, it replaces that important missing component.

Juvaderm is injected into the skin with a very tiny needle, directly into the wrinkle. It restores the natural volume underneath the wrinkle lifting and smoothing it out. Depending upon the results you would like, you may discuss maintenance with Dr. McAndrews to determine the appropriate period between injections. Time between injections is typically 6-12 months.
